IT refers to a massive, anti-cyclonic storm on the planet Jupiter. Its most distinct feature is the swirling cloud surface, which is generally reddish in colour and oval in shape. It is approximately 20,000 km long and 12,000 km wide. The Great Red Spot is more than twice the size of Earth!

Neptune also has a similar patch called the Great Dark Spot.
