A Strange new tarantula found in Colombia has been named after its renowned author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The Kankuamo Marquez tarantula is brown-black and covered in rusty hued bristles. It also has a unique oval patch of sharp barbs.
Tarantulas usually fire their prickling hairs at predators while facing them. Once embedded in the skin, the hairs cause serious itching and can be life-threatening for small animals. The Marquez tarantula doesn’t shoot the bristles but embeds them using touch, a behavior never before seen in tarantulas.
On the other side of the world, in Australia, arachnologists came across seven new species of peacock spiders, tiny jumping spiders known for their bright rumps and flashy malting rituals.
Like other peacock spiders, all these arachnids have eight legs, front-facing eyes, and furry bodies.
They come in a variety of colors, flaunting patterned brown- and white coats as well as iridescent scales.
The species are distinguished by their mating dances. The male of each species goes through different movements and exhibits different body parts to attract a male.
Funny world – PRAYING mantids are among the few insects which can rotate their heads so that they can literally look over their shoulders, making them extremely effective predators.
